CoFuzion is a strategy game built around exploding atoms. Each turn you add one atom to a cell. Cells hold a limited number of atoms (their critical mass) and the moment a cell is full, it explodes.
The blast throws one atom into every neighbouring cell. Those atoms take over the cells they land in, and any cell that is now full explodes too. That is the chain reaction: one atom can detonate a whole board.
Critical mass: the number that decides everything
- Corner cells have 2 neighbours, so they explode at 2 atoms.
- Edge cells have 3 neighbours, so they explode at 3 atoms.
- Centre cells have 4 neighbours, so they explode at 4 atoms.
Inspired by real chain reactions
The name comes from physics. In a nuclear chain reaction, a neutron splits an atom, the split releases more neutrons, and those split more atoms. Critical mass is the amount of material needed to keep that reaction going on its own.

Why exploding atoms make a great strategy game
Explosions look chaotic, but CoFuzion has no luck at all: the same moves always give the same result. That makes it a puzzle you can learn to read. Good players count how many atoms each cell needs, set up chains of primed cells, and time the first explosion so the cascade lands on their opponent.
